Shades of purple to celebrate the LGBTIQ community

Tomorrow is Wear It Purple Day, which celebrates the contributions of our LGBTIQ community and Australians are encouraged to show their support by wearing purple this Friday.

Flinders Street station will be lit purple to mark Wear It Purple Day, an annual event to promote support and acceptance for young members of the LGBTIQ community.

Minister for Health, Jill Hennessy, recently said "We’re lighting up Flinders St Station for special occasions – and this is one of them. What better way to show our support for a great cause than to have the 'face' of our city lit up in its signature colours."

According to event organisers, Wear it Purple Day is about showing rainbow young people, and everybody around us, that they have the right to be proud of who they are and to empower together.

The Day is designed 'to celebrate and empower the diversity that surrounds each and every one of us; diversity in sex, sexuality and gender identities, in perspectives, in values, in everything!'
