Stringer Clark and RCT back Uplift Project to support women in developing countries

In the month of October, Stringer Clark and Ryan Carlisle Thomas and will be collecting pre-loved bras for the Uplift Project.

The Uplift project distributes donated bras to developing Pacific countries. In many Pacific countries new good quality bra costs a week of a teacher's wage. Many women and girls go without a bra, not by choice, but because they simply can’t afford it. Owning a bra provides dignity, and for many women and girls, often the bra received through Uplift will be the only bra she owns.

As a law firm with a high percentage of women workers, we often take wearing a bra for granted but we also recognise that this simple effort can make a significant difference to women in developing countries.

What can I donate?

If you have any questions about what is or isn’t suitable for donation the Uplift Project provides the following guide.

• Size 8-16 - A-DD cup (30-40 / 80-100) in good condition, including crop top styles.
• Size 18+ - A-DD cup (42+ / 105+)
• Nursing bras including crop tops and any condition will do as these are in high demand. Reuseable nursing pads are also appreciated.
• E cup plus- any size likely to be the only properly fitting bras that a woman gets in her life.
• Mastectomy Bras and Breast Forms (prostheses) are in high demand. If possible please send the box with the breast form/prosthesis, and put the relevant bras under the plastic mould, in the bottom of the box. These will be given to hospitals for distribution. If sending bras only, without breast forms/prostheses, please put a note in the bag/postpack so we don't miss them when sorting items.
• Swimwear - any size. Swimwear is great for keeping warm when standing in the water fishing with a hand line for a couple of hours. It is also handy for coastal women who dive for cash crops.
• New underpants - in some places a girl without underpants does not go to school during her period.
• Fabric nappies, second hand or new. In some areas, fabric nappies are expensive to buy so mums often buy one disposable at a time.
